To maintain safety on the roads in Dundalk, Drogheda, Balbriggan, Blackrock and the greater Dublin area, everyone who drives within those areas should know how to drive safely (including keeping proper distance from other cars) according to all of the regulations (for example, when passing another car, you must pass it on the right) that have been set forth for each of those areas.

When entering a roundabout, drivers have to give way (note: left or right) to all vehicles that are currently using the roundabout, as well as to vehicles that are entering the roundabout. Drivers observed using a telephone while driving are subject to being ticketed and receiving points on their driver’s license, as distracted driving can cause significant safety hazards.

All roads within Dundalk, Drogheda, Balbriggan, Blackrock, and the greater Dublin area have been established with national speed limits and are signed using kilometres per hour (kph). When operating your vehicle on public roadways, you are required to comply with all documentation requirements and the basic traffic laws. If you do not comply with these requirements or laws, you may receive a fine, penalty points, or lose your driving privileges, such as through the Irish penalty system. In addition, there are serious offences that include driving while under the influence of alcohol (DUI), speeding (excessive speed), and/or using a cell phone while driving that will result in you receiving additional fines, penalty points, or appearing in court. By understanding and complying with traffic laws, you keep yourself safe and also help protect other road users.
Drogheda and Dundalk have active town centres with high pedestrian footfall. You must be mindful of local speed limits, roundabouts, school zones, and other traffic signs.
Also, make sure you have your driver’s license, car insurance, and vehicle registration available at all times, as traffic enforcement is very strict in this area.
Driving in Balbriggan and Blackrock has a mixture of residential streets and coastal roadways. Be aware of narrow roads and cyclists.
You also need to be aware of and follow local parking regulations and signs to avoid parking tickets.
Seasonal traffic will also increase, especially during the summer months.
Driving conditions in Dublin and Lucan can include heavy traffic and complex intersections. You should also use the lane you are entering when you are driving. Obey all traffic signals as well! Also, if you are using your phone while driving or failing to obey pedestrian crossings, you could face a large fine.
In County Louth, County Meath, and County Monaghan, you will find narrow roads with little or no lighting. Be cautious of agricultural vehicles and animals, especially during the dark periods of the day (before the sun comes up and after the sun goes down).
