Your Journey to Becoming an Instructor with Drivewave
Becoming an approved driving instructor is easier when you have the right guidance from the start. With Drivewave School of Motoring, you will be supported at every stage, from your first consultation to qualifying and starting your new career.
1 – Pass the Theory Test
The first step is the RSA ADI theory test, which has 100 multiple-choice questions. You need a score of 75% to pass. The questions cover four main areas: driving documents, road safety, teaching methods (pedagogy), and car maintenance, along with the rules and skills from the Category B driving test. This stage is all theory, and Drivewave will help you prepare for it with clear guidance and study support.
2 – Pass the Driving Test
This stage is similar to the driving test you completed with your instructor when you first earned your license, but this time, the challenge is greater. The test is longer and more demanding, designed to assess your driving control, confidence, and technical skills at an advanced level. Successfully completing this test will take you one step closer to the final stage.
3 – Instructional Ability Test
In the final stage, your ability to teach and coach drivers will be assessed. The examiner will act as either a beginner or advanced driver, allowing you to demonstrate your teaching skills in a realistic situation. You’ll need to identify and correct mistakes, answer questions, and provide clear, practical guidance in a patient and adaptable manner.
